9/17/2023 0 Comments Silent witness reviews![]() ![]() Silent Witness is back and I'm in my happy place. Sue me, but I thought it was terrific - no matter what the naysayers say. But this show had pigs eating humans, betrayals, rats, sulphuric acid, a daughter trying to get her dad killed to save her mum, sister and brother and a dodgy electrician - what more do you want? I quote from Stephen: "Protect yourself from the blast, escape through the hole it makes."Īnd yes, the ending was very contrived with the true villain handily saying out loud all their motivations and reasoning in a way that even a Scooby-Doo writer would reject as too on the nose. If true, I'll know how to avoid an explosion in any vehicle I'm being transported in. But not even Line of Duty would have such ludicrous explanation of how Nikki and Stephen escaped the bomb blast. Other Line of Duty moments included the ambush of the convoy with suspect Stephen Ross (Matteo Carlmagno) and Nikki in back of a police van. I was half expecting an URGENT EXIT REQUIRED moment. I just loved the craziness of the plot, from the omnipresent Ndrangheta crime gang, who seem to be the Italian version of Line of Duty's OCG (Organised Criminal Gang). Although I spotted that twist coming a mile off and I guess I wasn't alone in doing so. From left, Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) Velvy (Alastair Michael) Laine Cassidy (Sophie Myles ) Jack Hodgson David Caves) and supporting cast (Image: BBC/Kieron McCarron)Īs a Doctor Who fan, I was also thrilled to see Sophia Myles (Madame de Pompadour from The Girl in the Fireplace season two episode) star as National Crime Agency boss Laine Cassidy. Silent Witness is back and I couldn't be happier. And the text messages on screen, the bantz and quips, actually made me LOL - especially when Schur passed by Jack and Nikki and asked if they had been kissing. And Aki Omoshaybi as Dr Gabriel Folukoya, who appears to be joining the team, has great charisma.Īnd yes, I even buy into Jack Hodgson (David Caves) and Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) who were shipped so much by fans they just had to get together. ![]() Really?īut I loved the introduction of the quirky anatomical pathology technologist trainee Velvy Schur (Alastair Michael), the new way of doing 'flashbacks' with Jack tracing the footsteps of the victim while the viewers see what actually happened. It was slated, as this story highlights.Īdmittedly, the start was a bit bumpy with the viewers being told it's not the falling from a great height that kills you, it's the sudden stop. Imagine my surprise that an episode I thought was so good I texted my mum about apparently went down like a bucket of cold stomach contents. On the other hand, it is utterly preposterous, self-important, non-sensical, far-fetched and takes itself far too seriously. On the one hand, it is a hard-hitting drama that takes on the big issues in serious way. As a long-time Silent Witness fan, I am well aware that the BBC series exists in two worlds. ![]()
